Family Therapy
Family therapy is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on the relationships and interactions within a family. It is designed to help family members develop skills to improve communication, resolve conflicts and strengthen relationships, as well as explore individual and family strengths and resources. During therapy, the therapist works with each member of the family and may use a variety of methods, including guided discussions and exercises, interactive activities, and education. The goal of family therapy is to help families build stronger, healthier relationships and overcome challenges together.

Family therapy can be helpful in addressing a wide range of issues, including couple challenges, parenting challenges, parent-child conflicts, family conflicts, childhood/adolescent emotional or behavioural problems, mental or physical health problems, sibling dynamics, grief and loss, addiction, and other family dynamics such as separated families, blended families and family lifecycle transitions.
FAQ's
Do I need a referral to access family therapy?
You don’t need a referral for family therapy. You can contact me to organise a 15 minute phone consult about your situation and book an appointment.
Who can come?
I may work with the entire family, or I may focus on specific individuals or sub-groups within the family depending on the nature of the issues being addressed. I can talk with you about who should attend the first session in our phone consult.

Is there a rebate?
Short answer, yes. You may be able to access a rebate through Medicare or private health insurance.

How long do the sessions go for?
The sessions go for 50 minutes with an additional 10 minutes for payment and administration. I also offers 90-minute sessions and will sometimes recommend this for families where four or more people may be joining the session to ensure each family member gets a chance to participate.
